Why You Should Try Scuba Diving

…because there’s nothing else like it on Earth.

Book Your Try Dive

If you’ve ever watched ocean documentaries and wished you could teleport into that world — to swim into a school of fish, antique amphoras, and even plane and ship wrecks — scuba diving might just be for you. But even if you’ve never thought about it, here’s why you should give it a try:

1. You Can Breathe Underwater

Yes, really. One of the most surreal and exciting feelings is taking your first breath through a regulator beneath the surface. It’s a moment of wonder, a little disbelief, and usually a big smile. You’ll never forget the first time it clicks: “I’m really doing this — I’m breathing underwater!”

2. Experience Weightlessness

Scuba diving gives you a sensation similar to floating in space — complete freedom of movement with no gravity pulling you down. You’ll hear a lot about “neutral buoyancy” in diving, which is the art of hovering without sinking or floating up. It’s a skill that improves with every dive, but even on your first, you’ll start to feel it with your dive instructor: that magic feeling of gliding effortlessly through a three-dimensional world.

3. You’re Flying, My Friend

On land, we only move forward, backward, and side to side. Underwater, you gain the ability to go up and down with ease. A small breath in and you rise. A slow exhale and you descend. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel like you’re flying — and it never stops being fun.

4. Wildlife Encounters You Can’t Imagine

Even a short try dive can put you face-to-face with fish, lion fish, octopuses, or even sea turtles if you’re lucky. The ocean is home to bizarre and beautiful creatures, many of which you’ve probably never heard of. Every dive is different, and you never know what you’ll see until you’re down there.

5. A Whole New World

When you dive, you’re stepping into an alien environment. The fish, corals, and underwater landscapes are not there for us — they live their lives, and we get to quietly observe. It’s a powerful feeling to be a respectful guest in a world so different from ours. Always remember the golden rule: don’t touch anything! Even an empty seashell belongs on the seafloor — it may one day become a home to marine life again.

6. Peace and Quiet

Underwater, your phone doesn’t ring. There are no emails, no traffic, no background noise. Just your own bubbles and the occasional sound of a sea turtle crunching coral. It’s one of the few places you can truly disconnect. For many, it’s a form of meditation — a moment of pure calm and presence.

7. Meet Amazing People

Divers are a unique community — friendly, welcoming, and always up for sharing stories or helping out. Whether you’re diving close to home or halfway across the world, it’s easy to make friends through diving. Everyone remembers their first dive, and most are excited to help newcomers fall in love with the sport.

8. Support Ocean Conservation

When you try scuba diving, you’re not just doing something fun — you’re supporting marine protection. Many dive sites are located in protected marine parks, where local communities see more long-term value in tourism than in destructive fishing. The more people who care about what lies beneath the surface, the more effort goes into preserving it.

9. It’s Easier Than You Think

You don’t need to be an athlete, a strong swimmer, or even particularly adventurous to try diving. Our SSI Basic Diver course — also known as Try Dive or Discover Scuba Diving — is designed for complete beginners. After a short theory briefing and a few basic skills in shallow water, you’ll be safely guided by an instructor on your first dive. It’s simple, fun, and safe.

So What Are You Waiting For?

Scuba diving opens up a part of the planet most people never get to experience. One try dive could be the start of a lifelong passion — or at the very least, an unforgettable story.
